At his death, the minimalist painter Guido Molinari left behind as a legacy to the Molinari Foundation his former studio and living quarters, so that they can develop a conservation and dissemination center for the artist’s creative work.
Two major constraints have led to the final design concept. Located in the main hall of a former bank building and featuring two frontages completely covered by windows, the exhibit area doesn’t include much display surfaces. Moreover, some of the artist’s gigantic work can only be kept in the main area. The solution was to design three movable volumes that can store large format paintings. These storage blocks can be moved according to the exhibitions, and the walls can be used to display other paintings.
